Selectmen press CPA board on spending priorities
Somerset's Board of Selectmen pushed the Community Preservation Committee to build a long-term capital plan before funding new recreation projects.
Other Committee · Meeting of January 29, 2026
Somerset's Board of Selectmen pushed the Community Preservation Committee to build a long-term capital plan before funding new recreation projects. Selectman Souza raised concerns about O'Neill Field's $350,000 lighting request and two Little League field-reconstruction applications outpacing existing maintenance needs. Attorney Matt Aspen, chairman of the Somerset Housing Authority, defended the CPA, noting the 1 percent surcharge cost the average household $47 in fiscal 2025 and generated a 16.87 percent state match, calling cuts to the program "a travesty." Selectmen separately voted to buy two cardiac monitors from the town of Easton for $70,000, half the cost of new units, and signed a $209,000 contract with Village Green Restoration Inc. for Friends Meeting House window and door work.
The board postponed an early voting vote because Town Clerk Caitlin Hadala was out sick.
