Recreation Board Approves Fall Field Permits
Other Committee · Meeting of September 2, 2026
Somerset Recreation Commission approves fall field permits, eyes beach fee hike worth an extra $10,000. The board unanimously granted field-use permits to Somerset Berkeley Independent Softball, Somerset Baseball League, South Admin men's softball and a fall youth volleyball clinic now priced at $100 for three Saturdays. Staff reported the summer concert series raised $6,530 in donations and that the beach logged 15 rain days, the most since 2021.
A proposed fee change would raise daily passes to $25 for everyone and push season passes to $50 for residents and $100 for non-residents, projected to add nearly $10,000 in revenue; staff also noted only 41 of 177 eligible seniors used the free beach pass this summer. "We went through the whole summer league and we never got schedules," one staffer said, citing a recurring coordination problem with youth league coaches. No fee vote was taken; a fuller proposal is expected at a future meeting.
