Other Committee · Meeting of October 6, 2026

Somerset's Economic Development Committee voted to accept member Isabella Rocha's resignation and heard a sweeping economic development framework from Town Planner Amy. The committee voted unanimously to post the vacant seat and separately to adjourn, but took no vote on the framework itself, which calls for recodifying the town's zoning bylaw, adding a "pre-application" stage for developers, and pursuing Chapter 43D expedited permitting for sites like Wilbur Avenue. Amy cited census data showing Somerset's population at 18,681 with a median household income around $112,000.

The committee chair criticized the Planning Board, saying "every time the planning board brings it up, they mumble and grunts about it, and then it disappears." Members also noted a $750,000 grant for the Friends Meeting House and unresolved state inquiries on the Brightman Street Bridge, estimated at $17.5 million to $30 million to demolish.
