ZBA presses car wash to fix lighting, lost buffer
Zoning Board · Meeting of September 10, 2026
Somerset zoning board continues car wash lighting and buffer dispute to October. Chairman Steven Cadorette and the Zoning Board of Appeals pressed district manager Scott Green over bay lights that burn 24 hours and a pine buffer that abutter Celia Martins says was cut to bare trunks, violating a 1997 permit requiring a "wall of black pines" along the property line. "It looks like a circus is going on in my backyard all the time," Martins said.
Green called bay-hour and fixture changes "not my call" and agreed to relay the board's requests — shielded fixtures, motion-sensor lighting — to ownership. The board, with Vice Chair Bernard Miranda and Clerk Steven Moniz, continued the appeal to October 22, approved a home-based landscaping business permit unanimously, and continued petitions from an in-home bakery and a Taco Bell planned development to the same date.
