School Committee · Meeting of March 24, 2026

Somerset School Committee trimmed its fiscal 2027 budget increase to 3.49 percent, down from 3.9 percent two weeks earlier. The $26,863,189 budget restores a Director of Curriculum and Assessment position and a second HVAC technician. Chief Financial Officer Pellerin projected $11,152,527 in Chapter 70 aid for fiscal 2027.

Member Jen Ashley pushed to end district bus service to a private preschool, saying the district is "just not in a position where we can afford to do that anymore." Chairman Victor Machado said he received a petition opposing bus cuts that he believes a Fisher Bus Co. employee collected during pickups, calling it "a campaign move of using our funding and using our resources." The committee voted unanimously to seek Town Meeting approval for a $79,659 maintenance truck and camera upgrades, and honored outgoing member Robert Gaw after six years of service.
