School Committee · Meeting of October 20, 2026

Somerset School Committee unanimously approved a new six-year contract for Superintendent Jeffrey Schoonover, running from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2032. The vote followed a mid-cycle evaluation in which members called Schoonover "student-focused" and credited him with advancing early college programs and "a thoughtful framework for responsible artificial intelligence integration," though one member noted he should "think of yourself as well" after receiving weekend reports. A separate item on a superintendent salary increase was tabled, with a member saying it was "no longer needed" given the new contract.

The committee also reviewed release status for roughly two dozen sets of executive session minutes dating from 2021 to 2025, designating some for full release and others to "remain redacted as is." A public commenter identified as "Mr. Kafka" praised Schoonover's "ability to listen to the public."
