SOMERSET — The Somerset School Committee voted unanimously to extend Superintendent Jeffrey Schoonover's contract through June 30, 2032. Members read individual performance evaluations aloud, with one saying his work "merits an exemplary rating overall," while several urged him to delegate more and protect family time. The committee also accepted a $50,000 donation from the JWS Breaking Bread Foundation to create the John W.
Stathis Biomedical Laboratory at Somerset Berkeley Regional High School, and voted to establish a transportation revolving fund letting the district bill other districts for van use. Chief Financial Officer Kayla Marston reported $3.19 million spent and $16.58 million encumbered through September, and member Jenifer Andrews flagged a budget-line discrepancy of $184,949 that Schoonover later attributed to a posting error, not a real shortfall. Officials confirmed Somerset's high school bus fleet drops from 14 to eight vehicles starting November 2 under a previously approved budget cut.
