Water Board Appoints Two, Waives Interest on Bill
Water · Meeting of September 2, 2026
Somerset water board hires two technicians, waives interest on a disputed $846 bill. Water and Sewer Superintendent Chris told the Board of Water and Sewer Commissioners the two collection-system hires, John Haywood and Cooper Murica, fill vacancies left by retirements, pending background checks. Resident George Ackley of 185 Cherry Street disputed an $846.41 bill tied to roughly 2,000 gallons a day of usage traced to the period a nearby sewer pump station contractor may have used his outdoor spigot; the board waived interest pending a decision on the existing $401.47 sewer abatement, since town policy bars abating water charges.
Commissioners also declared a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 surplus for auction and tabled a plan to cap reimbursement at $1,000 per employee for two union plant operators' water treatment coursework, pending talks with the LIUNA union. "I just don't want to have to pay for the water and the sewage," Ackley said.
