Economic Development Panel Sets Somerset 250 Plans

Other Committee · Meeting of April 21, 2026

Somerset's Economic Development Committee says it hopes to raise close to $25,000 in sponsorships for a 200- to 250-drone show planned over Slades Ferry on June 27 as part of the town's 250th anniversary. Jeffrey Mox said $5,000 "platinum" sponsors get their logo lit up in the sky for 20 to 30 seconds, a reserved table and a vendor booth, with gold, silver and bronze tiers scaled down from there. The committee also confirmed a legal fix to the proposed Slades Ferry Overlay District rezoning article headed to the town warrant, after the Planning Board flagged technical language around special permits.

Rick Pierce separately questioned the ethics of accepting corporate donations to town programs, saying "I don't want to do anything that has the appearance of influence," after the Board of Selectmen declined, for now, a Flatiron donation to Keep Somerset Beautiful. Digital navigators reported helping 168 residents with phone and computer skills since the program launched.
