Water Board Lifts Sewer Repair Cap to $100,000

Water · Meeting of October 28, 2026

Somerset's Water and Sewer Commission approved up to $100,000 in contingency funds for an emergency sewer repair near Prospect Street. A department official said bills for excavation, manhole replacement and camera inspection near the fire and police complex would likely total "$40,000, $50,000 by the time we're done," but the board amended the authorization upward so the work could be finished. The town is pursuing reimbursement from the company blamed for the break and its insurer, which officials said is self-insured, though no recovery agreement exists yet.

The board, with commissioners Lima and a second member voting aye, also approved four water-bill abatements totaling $3,531.57 for documented leaks and pool fills, and tabled engineering contracts with Wright-Pierce and Rue Engineering pending missing paperwork.
