Board of Selectmen · Meeting of September 17, 2026
SOMERSET — The Somerset Board of Selectmen approved a final $5 million borrowing note to close out the $91 million Somerset Middle School project. Town Administrator Mark Iolucci told the board the figure covers a $3 million balance withheld from the original borrowing plus roughly $2.5 million held back by the Massachusetts School Building Authority for up to two years after completion. The board also approved a three percent raise plus one percent deferred compensation for Iolucci; resident Jerry Wax pushed for 10 percent, calling three percent "a joke," while Selectman Allen Smith cited negotiated health insurance savings to justify the lower figure.
Selectmen signed a $142,973.91 contract with Sports Turf Specialties Inc. to rebuild two South Complex baseball fields using Community Preservation Act funds, and approved $52,077 for a new fire department pickup truck.
