SOMERSET — The Somerset Conservation Commission continued a hearing on a Main Street addition, pool and dock project to August 10, citing unanswered state comments. Project manager James Hall presented plans for a 10-foot-by-18-foot addition, a pervious paver patio and a 12-foot-by-24-foot in-ground pool at 394 Main Street, filed under applicant Kate Sear. Members questioned excavation methods, groundwater depth and the need for a retaining wall before the pool is built.
A separate dock application seeks to legalize a gangway an installer built four feet wide instead of three, which Hall said triggered a state "10% rule" forcing the owner into a 30-year dock license instead of the original 15-year permit. The property owner, identified only as Jack, said the fix would let him add dock space "for his boat." The commission voted to continue the entire filing to August 10 rather than close the hearing without a Department of Environmental Protection file number.
