Conservation board approves dock, pool project
Conservation · Meeting of August 31, 2026
Somerset Conservation Commission clears waterfront dock and pool project, closes five-year-old permit gap. The six-member board, with John Costa, Renee Driscoll, Matt Fowler, Bill Castro, George Law and Karen Smeagol present, voted unanimously to approve a continued hearing covering a dock and floater that had outgrown a simplified state license and now requires a 30-year Chapter 91 license, paired with a pool and retaining wall redesigned to "stay out of" a 30-foot sewer easement. The board separately voted to issue a certificate of compliance to Derek Rubello of 2442 Riverside Ave., closing a 2021 notice-of-intent file he never formally closed out after finishing construction.
Members said a weekly dust-monitoring report will now be circulated by email, and that the Department of Environmental Protection will conduct a September 22 site visit tied to a superseding order in a matter referred to as Flat Iron Energy, which commissioners said is otherwise no longer active locally. The next meeting was set for September 21.
