Water Board Settles Open Meeting Law Complaint
Water · Meeting of July 1, 2026
Somerset's Water and Sewer Commission grapples with a mysterious storm-driven sewer surge and an open meeting law complaint. A June 23 storm sent plant flows from an average of 2 million gallons a day to an instantaneous 10 million gallons, a spike staff called "a bit of an eye-opener event" and are investigating with engineering firm Wright-Pierce. Commissioners unanimously authorized sending town counsel KP Law's response on a three-part open meeting law complaint filed by Patrick Keegan to the Attorney General's Division of Open Government, and approved amended April 22 minutes adding a recorded executive-session roll-call vote.
The board also approved a $22,850 change order with Biscoe Building Systems to pave the Miller's Lane pump station area, while tabling a Park Corporation reservoir contract addendum and the water and sewer capital plan. Weston and Sampson's Glenn McKenzie, representing Liberty Utilities, asked to share the town's sewer easement under Interstate 195 for a gas main relocation; a board member said "we wouldn't be able to grant any shared issue in that easement."
