Water board leans toward single-phase $75M upgrade
Water · Meeting of April 8, 2026
Somerset water board leans toward a one-phase, $75 million treatment plant upgrade to save on costs. Wright-Pierce engineers told the Board of Water and Sewer Commissioners that combining two planned construction phases into one could save $2 million to $4 million in contractor mobilization costs, with Commissioner Leighton saying "I'd rather see it as one phase." The board separately approved a $752,652 payment to contractor BISCO for pump station upgrades and a water connection for a Dighton building, and accepted a contract extension to June 3, 2026, for the Hot and Cold Lane pump station project. Staff also disclosed that roughly 4,400 water services townwide are 40 to 60 years old and about 7,000 water meters, installed since 2017, will eventually need replacement at a cost nearing $6 million.
