Somerset COA approves minutes, preps 250th event
Council on Aging · Meeting of June 24, 2026
Somerset Council on Aging previews a donor-funded 250th anniversary celebration with a 200-drone finale. Board member Tim said organizers expect "at a minimum 5,000 people" at the June 27 event at Slade's Ferry Park, funded largely through close to $40,000 in corporate and public donations plus nearly $5,000 in merchandise sales through Eau Claire's Market. Director Cindy reported the department closed fiscal year 2026 under budget despite a roughly $1,400 gas overrun, offset by almost $6,000 in electricity savings from new mini-split units.
The board approved its May 28 minutes unanimously, corrected to spell a town employee's name as Simons rather than Simmons, and discussed using $80,000 in remaining Community Preservation Act funds for door replacement plus free cash for a handicap bathroom renovation. Members also thanked longtime volunteer Joan for roughly ten years running the center's bingo program: "You took an awful lot of guff."
