Somerset adopts fiscal 2027 water, sewer budgets
Water · Meeting of May 20, 2026
Somerset water and sewer panel approves $9.16 million in combined fiscal 2027 budgets amid a Fall River sewer dispute. The Somerset Water and Sewer Commission voted unanimously for a $4,610,314 water budget and a $4,554,465 sewer budget, the latter up 8.25 percent largely on debt service for a $5 million pump station loan and rising sludge disposal costs. Resident Elizabeth Pesto told commissioners she "can't understand how or why you continue to ignore that there is opposition" to planned sewer upgrades, and read a quote she attributed to Paul Furland describing remarks Commissioner Robert Lima, who is seeking re-election, made at an April 8 town hall on Fall River regionalization.
Commissioners separately approved a $17,000 change order after contractors found a 6-inch discharge main instead of the expected 2-inch pipe at the Owen Avenue pump station.
