SOMERSET — The Somerset Planning Board voted unanimously to recommend a proposed Taco Bell for Route 6, while splitting 4-1 to keep debating a stalled Slades Ferry rezoning. The board backed Desert De Oro Foods' 2,165-square-foot Taco Bell at 721 GAR Highway 5-0, conditioning the recommendation on a right-turn-only exit, police and fire sign-offs and a cumulative traffic study; Vice President Mark Raymond said the restaurant would add 54 new trips during Saturday's midday peak hour. Member Nicole McDonald cast the lone vote against continuing the Slades Ferry Crossing District rezoning, arguing the town has spent $75,000 studying a plan that functions as a housing scheme without answering what new municipal services would cost.
Clerk Lloyd Mendes recused himself from a Bednarik family lot-combination request, which the board continued 4-0 to March 31. The board also voted 4-1 to favorably recommend a Grandview Avenue dock to state regulators.
