Committee Amends Regional Cost-Share Pact
School Committee · Meeting of June 9, 2026
Somerset School Committee strips a disputed clause from its regional cost-sharing deal after a warning it could cost $100,000. Member Mr. Machado argued the original language would have defaulted shared-position costs to enrollment share if the Somerset Berkeley Regional School Committee and Somerset ever failed to agree on a new split, saying it would "penalize the Somerset community." The amended pact passed unanimously after he proposed striking the clause.
Separately, Chief Financial Officer Raquel Pellerin and Director of Curriculum Elizabeth Haskell both announced resignations; Superintendent Jeffrey Schoonover called Haskell "my thought partner for these 11 years." The committee also approved new 2026-27 student handbooks adding language on AI-generated "deepfake" images of students, and accepted a $3,000 Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant for Somerset Middle School.
