Cultural Council Waives Minutes, Preps Grant Review
Somerset Cultural Council to rethink its open house after zero applicant turnout.
Cultural Council · Meeting of September 29, 2026
Somerset Cultural Council to rethink its open house after zero applicant turnout. Chair Heather Gregory said the Sept. 29 open house was "well planned for" but drew no prospective grant applicants, prompting members to float a recipient survey, a virtual option, and Facebook testimonials ahead of next year's event. Treasurer Caroline Charest reported the council's Mass Cultural Council allocation rose to $12,790 this year from $12,400 last year, plus $2,726 in locally held funds, after last year's cycle awarded $12,730 in grants.
The 2026 grant application window closes Oct. 16, and members are polling for a November voting-meeting date — Nov. 16, Nov. 19, Nov. 30 or Dec. 2 — after a Dec. 8 town chorus concert ruled out the council's usual mid-December slot. The council waived the reading of its June 15 minutes and adjourned without further votes.
